Protector or topper — which do I need?
A protector is a thin washable barrier that keeps the mattress clean (and the guarantee valid); a topper adds a comfort layer that changes how the bed feels. Many beds sensibly wear both — protector over topper.
Do waterproof protectors sleep hot?
Old PVC-backed ones did; modern polyurethane membranes under cotton or Tencel breathe far better. If night heat is the worry, look for Tencel or bamboo surfaces over crinkly polyester.
